KATHMANDU, Sept 22: Naya Shakti Party, Nepal has condemned the joint statement issued during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's recent state visit to India and termed the provision of 'holding similar views on major international issues' as a blunder.

The 11th point of the statement says that both countries hold similar views on major international issues, including the comprehensive reforms of the UN and other international organizations, affecting the developing countries and work in close coordination with each other in the United Nations and other international fora. It further states that the Nepali side reiterated its support for India's candidature for permanent membership of the UN Security Council.

The newly established political party, led by former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai, has also criticized the joint statement arguing that it limited the jurisdiction of the Eminent Persons Group on Nepal-India Relations.

"The EPG was formed to review and revise all the treaties and agreements between the two countries but the statement has limited it to suggest measures to consolidate and further expand the ties between the two countries," read a press release issued by Khim Lal Devekota, the party's spokesperson.

Likewise, the party has criticized the joint statement for internationalizing internal affairs of Nepal. "A point in the joint statement states that India welcomed the ongoing efforts of the Government of Nepal to take all sections of the society on board for effective implementation of the constitution. This has entirely internationalized the internal affairs like the process of amending the constitution for its implementation and it is unnecessary and wrong," states the press release.

The party has criticized the joint statement over seven different issues included in it.
