KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Naya Shakti Nepal party held a sit-in at Bhadrakali Kathmandu on Friday to express its dissatisfaction against the joint statement issued by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's during the latter's India visit.

Naya Shakti has opposed some points in the joint statement. "The joint statement is against our national interest as it states that Nepal and India share same position in major international issues," reads the statement issued by the party.

Former prime minister and coordinator of Naya Shakti, Baburam Bhattarai, and senior party leaders were present at the sit in protest.

The party has also opposed the government's decision of delineating local units on the basis of existing Ilakas.

Naya Shakti Party has also urged the major political parties and the government to expedite the constitution amendment process, bringing the agitating Madhes-based and other Indigenous political parties on board.

In its five-point demand letter, the party has asked the government to control price hike on essential goods, regulate public transportation and release reconstruction grants to the earthquake victims as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the party has suggested that the Election Commission hold local, provincial and federal elections at one go.
