KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Russian Culture Center in Kamalpokhari hosted a literary program on Friday to conclude the 60th anniversary celebration of Nepal-Russia diplomatic relation. 

At the event, Prof Dr Jangab Chauhan and Bishnu Bahadur Singh were felicitated with the ‘Pushkin medal’ by the Russian Writers’ Association for their contribution in promoting both nations’ diplomacy through literature. 

Similarly, the Nepal Russia Literary Association, headed by Chauhan, released three books – the Russian translation of Uttam Kunwar’s ‘Srasta ra Sahitya’, a bilingual poetry collection ‘Colors of Poetry’ by Bishnu Bahadur Singh and ‘Sristi Barnan’ by Krishna Prakash Shrestha – in the presence of scholar and culture expert Tejeshwor Babu Gwanga and Russian poet Victor Juev. 

In the main event, Russian poet Juev recited one of his poems. He was joined by Nepali poets Momila and Bikram Subba, while Jujukaji Ranjit sang a verse from Laxmi Prasad Devkota’s ‘Muna Madan’. Juev also read his translation of Momila’s Nepali poem. 

“Literature has the power to bond nations and we are determined to continue this literary diplomacy in the coming years,” said Chauhan reflecting on the seventeen year long service of the Nepal Russia Literary Association.  

The anniversary celebration had kick started on September 25 after the unveiling of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin’s statue at the Russian Culture Center. Pushkin’s statue was made by Russian sculptor Grigory Patotsky.
