BAITADI, Oct 17: Purchaudihat Village Development Committee (VDC) has decided to ban child marriage in the village aiming to curb the trend of child marriage.

A nine-member committee led by Dhan Bahadur Gadal, a local social worker, has been formed to spread awareness and work for the cause. The committee consists of representatives from various local organizations and political parties, including that of Citizen Awareness Center and Ward Citizen Forum.

The villagers have decided to initiate legal action against all those who continue to practice child marriage.

The head of the VDC, Govind Raj Joshi, said, “Although we haven't seen child marriage practices in our village after the ban, we have been informed that people are going outside the village to do it. We are going to investigate these cases and bring them to court.”

This VDC has become an example to all the other VDCs by becoming a child-marriage free village and for promoting women's rights.
