Scrub Typhus claims two

DHANGADHI, Oct 18: At least two people have lost their lives to scrub typhus in Kailali in the past one and a half months. 

Among the deceased are Krishna Bogati, 15, of Pahalmanpur VDC and Sagun Ranabhat, 24, of Fulbari VDC. Bogati breathed her last on last August 29 and Ranabhat on September 10 while undergoing treatment, shared Vector Control Supervisor at the District Public Health Office, Hari Prasad Bhatta. 

While testing blood samples of 200 plus patients who visited the Seti Zonal Hospital for treatment since mid-August, 90 were detected with the infection of scrub typhus, according to the hospital sources. 

The disease was found among the patients visiting the hospital from Kailali, Kanchanpur, Doti, Dadeldhura and Achham districts. 

The disease is transmitted from the bites of some species of trombiculid mites which are found in the rats. Among other symptoms of the disease are high fever, severe headache, red bruises in the body where the mile bites. RSS
