DHADING, Oct 23: A new health center, constructed with the aid from the German government, was inaugurated in Semjong VDC of Dhading district recently.

Chief of Public Health Administration and International Cooperation Division, Bhogendra Raj Dotel, the ambassador of Germany Matthias Meyer, ambassador of Norway Kjell Tormod Pettersen and members of parliament Dilman Pakhrin and Parshuram Tamang were present during the ceremony last Wednesday.

The only health center of the village was damaged by the massive earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25, 2015.  The center had to treat its patients in makeshift tents, which became useless after a couple of months. The people of Semjong heartily welcomed the new building that consists of an OPD, a pharmacy, an administration ward, a staff room and a maternity ward.

The health center was built by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) with the aid from the German government. Apart from this center, the German government has also financed construction of other four health care centers in Katunje, Dhuwakot 1, Dhuwakot 2 and Budathum VDCs.

People of other VDCs too expressed happiness to get proper health centers. The auxiliary health officer of Katunje health center, Dipendra Thakur, said, "We had a two storied building, which was severely damaged by the April earthquake. There wasn't a proper place to store the medicines after that. Now we feel relieved."

The health workers had been using one of the damaged rooms of the building as a maternity ward, which was very risky especially for women.

"Pregnant women who came for regular checkup had to be treated in tents. But the torn tents didn't provide much privacy. Now that we have a proper building, our patients will receive better care," he added.
