Communications Minister Rai urges NC to help resume House

KATHMANDU, June 26: Minister for Information and Communications, Sherdhan Rai, has urged the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, to help resume the House as soon as possible.

At a programme organised by Kathmandu Chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Nationalities Journalists here Sunday, Minister Rai said the obstruction of House by the main opposition was irresponsible and wrong.

Although Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was present in the House to address the demands raised by the NC as well as to brief the House about the terrorist attack on Nepali migrant workers in Kabul and the works carried out by the government in this regard, it was postponed due to disruption of the NC, added Minister Rai.

He said that a decisive talk would be held with Madhesi parties within a couple of days and claimed that no consensus would be forged in the talks if Madhesi Morcha put forth the demands including rewriting of the new constitution.

The Communications Minister further said the government has been revising media policy and Online Media Operation Directives to make media sectors systematic.

President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Dr Mahendra Bista said the media sectors should be made fully inclusive along with capacity building of media.

He also stressed the need of correcting the Online Media Operation Directives the government brought recent, as it has shrunk the press freedom.

RSS GM Acharya Honoured
Meanwhile, Kathmandu Chapter of the FONIJ honoured various journalists including General Manager of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Nirmala Acharya, for their contribution to the media.

Similarly, Board member of the Press Council Nepal Subheskhya Bindu Tuladhar, Chief Editor of Gorkhapatra Daily Pushkar Mathema, Editor of Rajdhani daily Rajan Sharma, litterateur and journalist Dhruba Madikarmi, journalists—Ramita lama, Pushpahari Kampa Rai, Pradeep Myangbo, Kali Maiya Chaudhary and Raj Kumar Shrestha were honoured at the programme.
