BIRGUNJ, Nov 28: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday said that constitution amendment bill would be endorsed through the parliament.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union Deuba in Birgunj, Deuba said that the amendment proposal would get endorsed soon after its registration.

Leader Deuba hinted that main opposition CPN-UML, which has been opposing the amendment proposal, would eventually support the amendment proposal.

UML leaders and cadres are protesting in various districts against any amendment to the constitution after the ruling parties expedited preparations to divide Province 5 to address the agitating Madhesi parties' demand for a revision in the existing seven-province federal structures be revised.

Stating that he had a meeting with the UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli at Bara's Simara Airport, Deuba said they had a useful meeting and expressed hope that the main opposition party would support the amendment. He argued that the amendment was for institutionalizing the achievements made so far.

Deuba also asked the agitating Madhesi forces to accept the amendment proposal. "The amendment proposal is for addressing their demands," said Deuba adding, "They will accept it." Although a large section of the Madhes-based parties have given their nod to the amendment proposal, Upendra Yadav, the chairman of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, has expressed his reservations over the current proposal.
