KATHMANDU, Dec 28: A three-day International Literature Festival kicked off in the capital on Thursday.

Poets and literary personalities from India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Korea and Australia are participating in the event organized by National College in Kathmandu. They will be reciting their poems and prose during the function.

According to the organizer, there will also be panel discussions on two different topics – Women’s Writing: Is this enough to break the wall and how the literature today is writing about society – as a part of the festival. The program is expected to help contribute to the development of literature and help make Visit Nepal 2020 a success, according to the program coordinator Bhishma Uprety.

Principal Madhav Neupane said the program is also aimed at providing a platform to interact, discuss and exchange ideas and opinions among literary personalities of different countries. He also said that the event is expected to help promote positive thinking, and human values among academicians, literary writers and students.

The college has been offering need-based academic programs namely Bachelor in Development Studies (BDevS) since 1999, Bachelor in Development Finance (BDFin) since 2006, and Bachelor of Social Sciences (BoSS) since 2013 in affiliation with Kathmandu University (KU). “The literature festival is a part of the various academic activities being conducted by the college to help explore the potential of students,” the college said in a statement.
