KATHMANDU, August 18: The government has announced bids for a carrier for those Nepali already qualified for jobs in South Korea under the EPS.

The announcement has instilled hope among those people who had passed the EPS-Korean language test, but have been stopped from flying to the destination country due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As many as 10,000 people are waiting for flights to South Korea with the suspension of the sending process due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Akash KC is one of those 10,000 examinees proving themselves competent for jobs in South Korea under the EPS, but still doubts his departure for South Korea, his dream country for a job.

Ajay Sodari, coordinator of the 'EPS Passer Struggle Committee', said, “The process to send qualified aspiring workers is lengthy and cumbersome. Some people may get their visa terms expired soon and may lose job opportunities as a result if the process is not taken forward promptly.”

He underlined the need for prompt and efficient procedures so as to ensure the departure of all qualified candidates. The government has invited bids for a plane to take the workers to Korea through EPS today.

South Korea remains as one of the attractive destinations for Nepali migrant workers and the process of sending them there has remained halted for one and a half years due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

The committee wants the resumption of the sending process by following all required health safety protocols. It submitted a memorandum to a parliamentary committee a few days ago, drawing its attention to the fact that they were likely to lose a good job opportunity they had won through a tough competition if the process was further delayed.
