As part of KMC's beautification plan, 2,000 road lights to be installed in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Dec 11: As many as 2,000 road lights will be installed at various sensitive areas of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).

The KMC, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Department of Roads signed a trilateral agreement to this effect amid a ceremony held in Kathmandu on Thursday which was witnessed by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Basanta Kumar Nembang.

As per the deal, road lights will be installed from the Tribhuvan International Airport to New Baneshwar, Tripureshwar, Kalimati and Kalanki in the first phase. The estimated cost of the road lights installation project stands at Rs 170 million.

Delivering his remarks, Minister Nembang said that the project aims to illuminate the federal capital. "I urge one and all to extend their support to this illumination drive," he said.

Bidya Sundar Shakya, the mayor of KMC, said that the three sides signed the deal in a bid to beautify the city.

According to the deal, KMC will bear 60 percent and NEA will bear 40 percent of the total cost.
