KATHMANDU, Sept 11: It’s only been six months since the launch of Ghanta Home Productions. In a short span of time, the YouTube-based entertainment channel has garnered viewers’ appreciation in a great number. The company’s forte: it produces bone-tickling memes.

Known for his contribution as a journalist, documentarian and assistant film-maker, Bhisan Rai is preparing for the bigger leagues with his directorial debut ‘Purano Bullet’. Along with garnering experiences from feature films like 'Blind Rocks', and 'Johnny Gentleman', he has also appeared amid the Nepali mass as the publisher of a photonovel, 'Wifi Love'.  In conversation with My City’s Sonam Lama, Rai revealed the lesser-known facts about him.

An interaction program on ‘GESI Recommendation on Umbrella Act for National Mass Communication’ was held at Yak Palace, Lalitpur on Tuesday. The event jointly organized by Media Advocacy Group and Samjhauta Nepal aimed at focusing the importance of addressing GESI (Gender Equality and Society Inclusion) policies in the soon-to-be formulated Umbrella Act for National Mass Communication.

The definition of communication has surpassed the mere decoding and encoding of information. Many enthusiasts have been rising above their cultural and national identity to join hands as global citizens. Communication process at present is barely confined to one’s first language. Thus, the idea of cross-cultural communication has taken a leap closing the cultural gap between varied communities today.

Bishwo Gautam’s designs represent the mastery of work that he puts to his creations. His taste in fashion developed at an early age while growing up in Chitwan. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in fashion designing from Namuna College of Fashion Designing in 2007, he went on to establish  Bishwo’s creations the following year. Gautam then put up his first solo show in 2011, in Soaltee Crown Plaza, where he showcased a total of 10 fashion sequences.

The unique characters that Benisha Hamal portrays on each of her ventures make her stand out from the rest. She made her way into the Nepali film industry with  ‘Swor’ in 2010, and collected further appreciation from the audiences from movies like ‘Mokshya’, ‘Kalo Pothi’, ‘Jhyanakuti’, and ‘King Returns’. 'Blind Rocks' is her latest endeavor, and for her outstanding performance in the same movie, she was awarded ‘The Best Actor Award’ in 2018.

Reality struck him hard when 24-year-old Avineet Malla could not find a home away from home, in the US, in 2014. During his undergrad year at Texas Wesleyan University, he invested much of his time selling sunglasses at a mall in Texas. For someone who had barely bothered starting a conversation beyond his comfort zone, the persuasive marketing skills he possessed came to him as a surprise. However, one random day in August, the same year, he booked a ticket back home.

The mastery of presenting a concrete object into an abstract form is what makes Ram Krishna Bhandari’s craft noteworthy. He uses unconventional means to express his thoughts on life and learning. Recipient of the Parijat Kala Puraskar (2065), and Desh Bhakta Ganatantrik Samman (2074), Bhandari chose to learn sculpting from his friends and acquaintances. He’s hardly achieved any formal degree in sculpting, but admits enhancing skills working on his own.

The lady lamp of the popular dancing squad Cartoonz Crew, Aashma Biswokarma has been B-boying for the past nine years and has won numerous solo and group b-boying battles along the way. She and her crew have been stealing the spotlight with their act in popular videos including ‘Jaal ma’, ‘Pani Paryo’, ‘Nai Malai Thah Chaina’, ‘Relli Mai’, ‘Dante Mohani’, etc.

Music therapy, a way of self-expression, is like psychotherapy. It is an art therapy that enhances mental health and well-being and helps people transfer skills and insights. Music therapy-based interventions can help children with anxiety, stress and other difficulties to find ways to soothe and understand their bodies and minds better.

The undying vigor to continuously produce new creations inspired Amar Neupane to set his firm foot into Nepali literature. He started his literary journey by publishing his earlier works in a local newspaper. However, his professional journey, as a writer, began only in 2009 with ‘Pani ko Gham’, which helped Neupane qualify for the Padmashree Sahitya Samman the same year.

Gaurav Pahari found fame through ‘Saili’, ‘Hostel’, ‘Gajalu’, and ‘Chhakka Panja 2’. The commercial acclamation of his projects has helped the actor bring out his talent among the audiences of the Nepali cinema. Before debuting in 2013, he was learning the various genres of acting at Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute. At present, he is preparing for his upcoming releases ‘Mr. Virgin’, and ‘Kumbha Karan’.

Though sports is considered a male-dominated domain, many women have excelled showcasing equal might.  Nepal is also witnessing a similar change. For instance, in July this year, a group of Nepali teenagers from the remote Mugu participated in Donosti Cup in Spain. Similarly, many more female athletes have gained prominence in various other sports.

In an interview with My City’s Sonam Lama, Shailaja Adhikary talked about her experience and the setbacks in the field of fashion and interior designing. At just 21, Shailaja Adhikar started exploring the fashion and interior designing domain. Pioneering the fashion and education arena In Nepal, Adhikary has already left a distinct mark in this field.

Lyricist and director Yadav Kharel has witnessed the troughs and crests of Nepali cinema and literature. Obtaining Bachelor in Law and a Master’s degree in Economics from Tribhuvan University, he was one of the first Nepali filmmakers to receive a diploma in movie direction and production from London Film School in 1971. In conversation with My City’s Sonam Lama, Kharel shared his insights on filmmaking and the art of writing in different domains.

Widely known for her performance in ‘Taambro’ and ‘White Sun’, Sarada Adhikari has established herself as a prominent actor in the Nepali film industry. Originally from Dhading, she moved to Kathmandu to pursue her theatrical journey in 2013. Since then, she has been featured in more than a dozen plays. Besides acting, she is also known for her roles in movies like ‘Sukha Dukha’, ‘Jadai Basey’ and ‘Mana ko chamal’.

KATHMANDU, July 29: Media Advocacy Group (MAG) organized a-three-day training on livelihood for women journalists from Wednesday to Thursday at Bhaktapur. Supported by FES (Friedrich Ebert Stiftung) Nepal, altogether 26 women from print, radio, online and TV journalism from 15 districts across Nepal participated in the training.
