KATHMANDU, June 28:Bangladesh has begun dispatching second consignment of rice to Nepal as a humanitarian assistance for the victims of the earthquake of April 25, 2015.

The entire cost of sending 10,000 tons of rice, including transportation by trucks from Bangladesh via Banglabandha (Bangladesh) to the warehouses of Nepal Food Corporation (NFC), is being borne by the Bangladeshi government under a bilateral humanitarian bilateral assistance program, a press statement issued by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu on Monday said.

"This is the second consignment of rice being sent as humanitarian assistance by the Government of Bangladesh," it stated, reminding that Bangladesh had earlier sent 10,000 tons of rice to Nepal immediately after the earthquake of April, 2015 in addition to other assistance.

Bangladesh and Nepal share excellent bilateral relations based on cultural, historical, religious and linguistic linkages.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took a personal initiative to send humanitarian assistance to the distressed friends in Nepal as part of her deep commitment to strengthen relations with neighbors in the region with a view to working together towards achieving a shared vision of prosperity and socio-economic development of the people, the statement added.
