‘Bill to amend some Nepal Acts’ tabled in National Assembly

KATHMANDU, July 17: The Bill to amend some Nepal Acts related to Civil Code 2080 BS, which was passed by the House of Representatives and received with a message, was tabled in today's meeting of the National Assembly. Assembly Secretary Dr Surendra Aryal tabled the bill.

The bill originated in and passed by the National Assembly and the House of Representatives passed the bill with amendments on July 2. After the amendment is accepted by the National Assembly, the bill will proceed for ratification.

Giving a speech before tabling the bill, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dhanraj Gurung said that since the period of the ordinance related to unfair transactions (loan sharking) has expired, the bill had to be brought as an amendment to some other Nepal Acts for the justice of the victims. Clarifying the urgency of the bill to bring unfair transactions under the ambit of law, he assured that a replacement bill would be introduced in the coming days through the ordinance period. In the meeting, the Speaker of the Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsana, drew the attention of the concerned parties to comply with the provisions of the constitution and the time period in the process of law making.

Another meeting of the National Assembly has been adjourned to be held after 31 minutes today. The main opposition in the assembly has demanded the formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe gold smuggling through the Tribhuvan International Airport and has drawn attention not to conduct any other business by parliament.
