ILAM, March 23: Chinese tea entrepreneurs who visited Nepal for monitoring visits have demanded more than 100,000 kg of tea from various tea industries in Ilam.

After visiting the tea plantations and industries, they expressed their interest in procuring the tea. The Chinese tea traders arrived in Nepal a few days ago through the efforts of Ilam Municipality and the Ilam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Tea businessman Chiran Dahal coordinated their visit.

During their stay, discussions were held between the Chinese entrepreneurs and local tea industry stakeholders and farmers regarding tea procurement and the potential for exporting tea to China. The visiting Chinese entrepreneurs also conducted on-site monitoring of tea plantations and industries.

They visited various tea factories and engaged with tea farmers from Deumai and Ilam municipalities. Chetnath Paudel Krishna, President of the Ilam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, mentioned that five Chinese entrepreneurs had visited a month ago for monitoring purposes, and now they have placed an order for a significant quantity of tea. He noted that their demand for tea arose as the first tea picking season was approaching, bringing a new wave of enthusiasm.

Kedar Thapa, the head of the municipality, highlighted Ilam's proactive initiatives in this regard. The Chinese entrepreneurs praised the quality of Nepali tea, noting that 80 percent of Nepal's tea is currently exported to India, but there is now optimism about expanding exports to China.
