NEW DELHI, Jan 31: Like in the medical sector, India is all set to introduce common entrance tests for engineering students and degree holders from academic session 2018.

The students will have to take entrance tests before and after engineering studies in India. This provision has been adopted in order to make the engineering profession more decent and systematic.

The common entrance test will be implemented throughout India effective from 2018.

Over 10,000 Nepali students are pursing engineering studies in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICT) has already prepared examination guidelines. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has said that the test system will be implemented in the engineering sector in order to assess the colleges’ education quality, improve weaknesses and to train the instructors.

“Preparations have been made to conduct the common entrance tests at the national level from 2018,” Sharad Kaushik, spokesperson of Hariyana Engineering Council, told Republica Online.

“Like in the medical sector, we are preparing to implement common entrance tests in the engineering field, too,” Kaushik said, adding, “however, colleges are free to prepare entrance test guidelines on their own.”

According to Kaushik, students will have to take the exams after completing engineering studies and before starting a new job.

In India, over 3,000 educational institutes have been producing around 700,000 technical manpower annually.

Of them, 20 to 30 percent will get decent jobs.                                            

According to Dipesh Bista, a board member of the Nepal Engineering Council, around 33 percent of those receiving licenses from the council have completed their studies from India.
