KATHMANDU, Sept 20: Former Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Khila Raj Regmi, has extended his best wishes on the eve of the Constitution Day stating that this day would inspire everyone to uphold constitutional procedures and the rule of law, making a way towards a happy journey of democracy and prosperity.

On the occasion of the ninth Constituent Day on Tuesday, the former chair of the Council of Ministers said that the major task of the hour is to make the people realize the full presence of democracy with the effective enforcement of the Constitution. "We cannot make any excuses to further delay in guaranteeing the full implementation of the Constitution. Hence, result-based actions that align with the objectives of the Constitution are needed to serve the spirit of the Constitution," said Regmi.

Recalling the political ups and downs and historic events for the formulation of the Constitution, Regmi urged one and all for soul-searching over the efforts made in the past eight years to address the people's aspirations and to serve the spirit of the Constitution.

Regmi, who is also a former chief justice, was concerned over the shortcomings on the part of the state’s high-level bodies in the course of implementing the Constitution.

He was of the opinion that further delay in addressing the issue of transitional justice serves a reminder of unsolved social justice.

Regmi who was the de facto prime minister of Nepal from March 14, 2013 to February 11, 2014 with the specific assignments to prepare and conduct the 2013 Constituent Assembly elections took time to say that some acts/laws demanded by the Constitution are still awaited and many more things are left to be carried out for the implementation of federalism. He also drew the attention of the stakeholders concerned towards that end.

He wished for the well being of the entire Nepali sisters and brothers on the occasion of the Constitution Day.

The main celebration of the Constitution Day will be  observed on Wednesday (September 20) this year in commemoration of the promulgation of the Constitution through the historic Constituent Assembly on Asoj 3, 2072 BS ( September 20, 2015).
