KANCHANPUR, Dec 4: With the new variant ‘Omicron’ of COVID-19 detected in a number of African countries and in India, security in the western border of Gadda Chauki has been heightened. 

Provisions have been made to conduct an antigen test for people entering Nepal from the border adjoining India. In addition, people with symptoms similar to that of COVID-19 will have their samples taken to the central laboratory for testing. “People who have been tested positive for the virus through the antigen tests have been sent for treatment to a hospital,” Chief of district Health Office in Kanchanpur, Shivaraj Sunar said. “Following the detection of the new variant of COVID-19 in India, samples have been sent to the central laboratory for testing,” he added.

According to Sunar, security in all major entry points along Nepal-India border has been tightened to stop the spread of the new variant. In order to minimize the risk, security personnel have started checking the PCR repost and vaccination cards of people entering the country from India.
