KATHMANDU, Oct 14: The Community Self Reliance Centre (CSRC) recently unveiled its annual program, accomplishments, budget allocation, and key priorities in its sixteenth social accounting report. The organization allocated a total budget of Rs 89.7 million for the fiscal year 2022/23 and is actively engaged in direct initiatives within 26 local levels spanning 15 districts.

Notable achievements reported include the distribution of land ownership certificates to 851 families across five local levels, encompassing a total land area of 116.17 hectares. The certificates were granted by the National Land Commission. Additionally, CSRC has played a crucial role in assisting 17 local levels in formulating land use plans.

In a bid to promote sustainable agriculture and livelihoods for landless and small farmers, 857 families from Gaushala Municipality in Mahottari and Panchpokhri Thangpal Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchok have benefited from CSRC's Climate Uplifting Program.

Recognizing the urgency of addressing climate change in South Asia, a regional policy dialogue was held concerning the protection of land rights for women and tribal communities. It served as a platform for in-depth discussions on these essential issues.

Furthermore, CSRC has extended support to 23 Dalit families affected by earthquakes. These families received food assistance and construction materials for temporary housing, each worth Rs 74,021. The support was specifically targeted at Ward No. 1 and 2 of Bajura Gaumol Rural Municipality.

CSRC has also taken a proactive approach to disaster preparedness by constructing and delivering emergency shelters to local governments in Bahrabise Municipality and Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchok. Moreover, 14 families from Bahrabise Municipality-7 Tangsar have benefited from government subsidies for home construction, enabling them to reside in safer dwellings.

The social accounting event saw the active participation of various dignitaries, including Chandra Bahadur Thing, President of the District Land Rights Forum in Rautahat; Arjun Prasad Harijan, President of Rupandehi; Megh Bahadur Bisi, Executive President of the National Land Rights Forum, Nepal; Dichen Sherpa, Vice Chairman of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality; and Chameli Gurung, Vice Chairman of Uttargaya Rural Municipality. Their presence highlighted the positive impact and success of CSRC's land rights campaign.

As the chief guest at the event, Keshav Niraula, Chairman of the National Land Commission, emphasized the collaborative efforts to address land-related challenges. He acknowledged the complexity of land management and stressed the commission's commitment to delivering tangible results in this critical area.
