JANAKPUR, Sept 14: Dr Ram Naresh Pandit, a gynecologist at Janakpur Zonal Hospital, recently got a transfer letter under the Employee Adjustment Act. As per the letter, he has been posted to Narayani Sub-regional Hospital. However, he has not left Janakpur Hospital yet. Pandit’s replacement, Dr Rashmi Yadav, has already joined her duty. She was working at Thapathali Maternity Hospital of Kathmandu earlier.

Dr Pandit has overstayed in the hospital for more than one week. And he has not shown any urgency to move away. According to the hospital sources, he is unlikely to follow the posting order unless pressure is exerted on him.

“He has two private medical centers here, so he won’t go away that easily,” the source said.

“City Hospital situated near Janakpur Railway Station and another health care institute just nearby, belong to him. He won’t go from here,” an official at the hospital said. “He has been lobbying to stay back,” he added.

Dr Pandit is also a renowned land dealer. According to locals, whoever needs big or small plots of land can meet him for land transactions.

There are even other employees in the hospital who have not taken the transfer order seriously. Dr Manish Pandey, Dr Rupesh Gai, and Dr Ramdev Chaudhari had received order to join Biratnagar Hospital where they have not moved yet. They are also associated with one or more private health institutions, according to sources.

“The doctors needed to follow the order, but they are showing stubbornness. It would be easier for the management to handle things had they shifted away as per the order,” said Dr Nagendra Prasad Yadav, medical superintendent of Janakpur Zonal Hospital.
