KATHMANDU, April 26: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to permit public vehicles to operate freely in Ilam constituency-2 and Bajhang Provincial Assembly Constituency- 1 (a), where the by-elections will be held.

The EC has instructed the Chief District Officers through the Ministry of Home Affairs to make necessary arrangements accordingly.

In previous elections, only vehicles with essential services and EC-issued vehicle passes were allowed to operate. However, for the convenience of voters in the by-elections, the EC has decided to allow uninterrupted operation of public transport to the polling stations.

On election day, essential service vehicles will be allowed to operate but cannot transport voters. Ambulances carrying patients, water tankers, milk transport vehicles, fire engines, media vehicles with identity cards, telecommunications service vehicles, hearses, vehicles used by doctors, health workers, and hospital employees with identity cards will be permitted.

Additionally, vehicles carrying EC-issued ID cards for observers, garbage transport, vegetable and fruit transport, electricity services, diplomatic missions, green-plated vehicles for foreign tourists, security agencies' vehicles, and vehicles for election-related staff and volunteers will also be allowed.

Candidates or their representatives can use permitted four-wheeled, three-wheeled, or two-wheeled vehicles on polling day.

Public transport vehicles will also operate on national highways and subsidiary highways connected to the respective districts.

Ram Dutta Pandey, Assistant Spokesperson of the EC, stated that security agencies will take possession of vehicles found in violation of the instructions, returning them only after voting is completed.

Voting in Ilam Constituency-2 and Bajhang Provincial Assembly Constituency-1 (a) will take place on Saturday from 7 AM to 5 PM.
