KATHMANDU, Nov 16: The Election Commission (EC) has issued a four-point instruction regarding the ban of use of prohibited goods at the polling stations on Election Day.

The prohibited goods are match-boxes, lighters, cameras and mobile phones among others. The House of Representatives and provincial assembly elections are scheduled for November 20 this year in a single phase.

The commission made a public appeal to the voters and the authorities concerned to comply with the instructions after calling an all-party meeting recently.

If voters or other individuals were found bringing with them any of the prohibited items at the polling centers, arrangements should be made to keep those items safely at the entry point of the polling centers or outside of the center as deemed appropriate for the voters before allowing them an entry into the polling center, according to the commission.

The commission will take immediate action in accordance with the prevailing law if the voter or any individual is found using the prohibited items inside the polling centers. For this, the chief returning officer or returning officer shall appraise and ask the election officers, assistant election officers and security personnel deployed at the polling centers to bring the violators to book.
