KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, pledged to table the Electricity Bill in the parliament within a week.

The Bill deemed very important for the overall development of the energy sector of the country has been endorsed by the Legislation Committee of the Council of the Minister and is already presented before the Council of Minister, said Minister Basnet.

At a program organized by the National Grid Company Limited here on Monday, Minister Basnet said that the government was working on the energy sector to bring about tangible results.

Stating that the incumbent government had encouraged usage of domestic consumption of electricity and development and expansion of transmission infrastructures, the Minister shared that the government was going to formulate a 10-year-old action-plan from 2023 to 2035 for integrated development of the energy sector.

According to him, the government had taken forward its activities with a roadmap- 'Energy for all and energy for prosperity' and, thus, he urged the private sector to consider investment in the energy sector of Nepal without any fear and doubt.

Similarly, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, said that transmission lines were being built commercially so as to provide respite to the energy sector's entrepreneurs.

According to him, now the private sector could transmit the electricity produced by their hydro power projects through the transmission line after paying certain fees.

He was confident that the promoters who had invested in the energy sector would be benefited since, he added, the government had taken forward some works whose results are visible.

Likewise, Dr Netra Gyawali, executive director of the National Transmission Grid Company, said that his company was working towards development of transmission lines as an associate and complementary company.

On the occasion, Dr Gyawali signed a MoU with promoters of various seven hydropower projects for use of transmission lines.
