Elephants create havoc reaching the place where an elephant was killed

MORANG, Jan 2:  In the vicinity where an elephant was fatally shot on Monday morning, other elephants have wreaked havoc during the night, causing damage in the area of Purbanchal University situated in Sundarharaincha Municipality-7 of Morang and its surroundings.

During Monday night, elephants from the forest entered the Purbanchal University campus, resulting in significant damage. DSP Ranjan Kumar Dahal, the spokesperson for Morang police, reported that the elephants vandalized the head of accounts counter, doors, and kitchen, including the college canteen. The damages included broken windows and door glass, as well as a broken kitchen stove.

The same group of elephants also consumed bananas from a 2-bigha area planted by Lekhnath Prasain, causing damage estimated at Rs 50,000 to the banana plantation.

DSP Dahal stated that the elephants further destroyed Krishna Bahadur Tamang's one-storied house with a tin roof and bamboo slats, resulting in damages amounting to Rs 50,000.

The location of the elephant-induced damage during the night is in close proximity to where the elephant was shot dead in the morning. Authorities have reportedly urged the local residents to stay vigilant, as the elephants may cause further havoc at any time.

On Monday morning, an elephant was shot dead in Sundarharaicha-10. The Division Forest Office Morang suggested that the elephants from the same group, angered by the killing, may have initiated the destructive behavior.
