Five arrested with rhino horn from Swayambhu

KATHMANDU, Dec 11: Police on Thursday apprehended five people from Swayambhu, Kimdol of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15, on the charge of smuggling rhino horn.

Acting on a tip off, a special team of police deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) held Rikesh Shakya, 41, Suresh Shakya, 35, and Anil Shrestha, 39,  of Kathmandu-23, Jhonchhe. Similarly, Ram Singh Tamang, 26, and Muna Tamang, 22, from Meghang Rural Municipality-6 of Nuwakot district were also arrested.

Police also recovered a rhino horn-like object from their Swayambhu-based room.      

They will be investigated as per the National Park and Wildlife Conservation Act-1973, according to the police.
