MoU signed for food security

KATHMANDU, May 21: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Forests and Environment and World Food Programme (WFP) was signed Monday for the food security and agriculture projects targeted on communities vulnerable to the climate change impacts. 

Joint Secretary at the Ministry Dr Ram Prasad Lamsal and Country Representative of WFP Pippa Bradford signed the MoU. 

The project to be completed in four years would be implemented in seven rural municipalities of Mugu, Kalikot and Jumla districts, and around Rs 1 billion would be spent. 

On the occasion, Minister for Forests Shakti Bahadur Basnet said that food insecurity could be brought to an end in Karnali through multi-dimensional mobilization of available means and resources. 

Minister Basnet was of the opinion that the foodstuff produced in Karnali could be managed through awareness and skills. 

The project would be implemented for local's capacity building for reduction of climate change impacts and adaptation, strengthening food security. RSS
