KATHMANDU, March 21: National Assembly member Khimlal Devkota has accused the government of not being serious about improving the current sorry state of Tribhuvan University (TU).

Speaking at the meeting of the National Assembly on Wednesday, Devkota said that the government was not serious even though there were news reports, editorials and interviews of the vice-chancellor about the sorry state of affairs at TU.

He said, “News, editorials and interviews of the vice-chancellor about TU’s situation and efforts started for its reform have been continuously coming in the media. However, the government is not serious about improving Tribhuvan University.”

MP Devkota said that the government has not responded to the encroachment on Phewa Lake in Pokhara and asked the government to submit an action plan for permanent solution to Phewa Lake protection in parliament.

He said, "The issue of encroachment upon Pokhara's Phewa Lake has not been answered even after the issue was raised many times in parliament. I also request the government to make the report public and to submit an action plan for a permanent solution to the encroachment of Phewa Lake to parliament.

He requested the government to make the report public as it is stated in the report prepared under the chairmanship of Punya Paudel that 30-40 dozers are plotting land in the vicinity of Phewa Lake every day and the ownership of public land in that area has been transferred to some 900 people.
