KATHMANDU, Nov 9: The hearing scheduled to be held today on the case of Resham Chaudhary, who was pardoned by the government, has been postponed. With the hearing process through the automation system, the case against Resham Chaudhary was postponed, said Govinda Prasad Ghimire, information officer of the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered to seek reasons in the writ petition filed against the government's decision to pardon Chaudhary. On June 7, a single bench of Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut issued an order seeking an explanation from the government as to why the amnesty was granted.

Although the Supreme Court decided to give priority to the writ petition, the case could not be heard. Chaudhary, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court in the Tikapur incident was released on Republic Day through a presidential pardon. Chaudhary, who had been serving a prison sentence since 2017, was released from prison after President Ram Chandra Paudel approved the government's decision to waive his sentence.

The families of the victims in the incident filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court against the government's decision to grant clemency. On May 20, the Tikapur incident victim Sharda Kadayat Bohora and others filed a writ petition against the government’s decision to grant amnesty to Chaudhary. Kadayat is the wife of police inspector Keshav Bohora, who was among 8 killed in the Tikapur incident.
