KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Over the past few months, a persistent sugar shortage has led to increased prices for consumers in the country. However, it has come to light that a substantial quantity of sugar has been illicitly entering Nepal through the Indian border crossing.

The District Police Office in Sarlahi recently revealed that 142 sacks of sugar were confiscated during the Dashain festival period. Additionally, DSP Dipendra Pajiar Tharu from the same office disclosed that two sacks of cashews, which had been surreptitiously brought into the country without proper customs clearance, were also seized.

During these operations, the police further intercepted food staples such as flour, rice, dal, and cooking oil.
