KATHMANDU, May 6: The revenue collected from the taxpayer offices across the country has increased this fiscal year compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Shiva Lal Tiwari, the director general of the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), stated that the tax revenue collected up to mid-April of fiscal year 2022/23 was Rs 12.16 billion, while the revenue collected by mid-April of fiscal year 2023/24 has seen a 1.53 percent increase compared to the previous year.  He estimated that the growth rate is likely to increase further during the remaining two months of the current fiscal year. There are 39 taxpayers offices across Nepal.

These offices collect various types of taxes, including income tax, value-added tax (VAT), excise duty, and education and health sector taxes, making them more accessible to taxpayers.

Recently, the IRD completed a performance review of all 39 taxpayer office heads and employees. Director General Tiwari conducted a review through virtual means and expressed the need to increase revenue monitoring and raise taxpayer awareness. He also stressed the importance of maintaining discipline and providing hassle-free services to taxpayers.
