Judo Olympics Solidarity Course completed

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The International Olympics Solidarity Course organized by the Nepal Judo Association (NJA) has been completed on Sunday. 

The course, which was started with support from the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was attended by 40 trainees.  It aimed at refreshing the skills of judo coaches of Nepal. The association said that such a program was crucial to produce new judo players and help grow Nepali judo industry. 

Noted expert from the International Judo Federation (IJF) Amar Merigja was the main trainer of the course. Suprasiddha Tamrakar and Rajeev Pradhan were the co-trainers. 

On the same occasion, the NJA also organized an orientation for 20 referees on the management of judo. NJA general secretary Dharma Shrestha, main coach Birendra Ranjit, and international referee Manoj Bahadur KC served as resource persons to train the referees on the new regulations of judo that were introduced this year.   

The National Sports Council (NSC)’s vice-president Lama Tendi Sherpa handed over certificates to the trainees at the end of the course on Sunday. 

Lama said that the training would be helpful in the promotion of judo in Nepal, adding that the Nepali sports sector had a lot of hope from judo. Expressing his confidence on the judokas, he said that they had the potential to bring medals in the Olympics after the training seminar.
