Judoka Khatri leaves for Japan for Olympic preparations

KATHMANDU, April 30: Female judoka Phupu Lhamu Khatri has left for Japan on Sunday for the preparations of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. 

Khatri has gone to Japan under the Olympic Solidarity Course for 27 months.

The President of the Nepal Judo Association (NJA) Deepak Harsha Bajracharya said that Khatri will be continuing her studies along with the preparations at the University of Law in Toyama. 

Bajracharya expressed his confidence that Khatri will be selected for the Olympics after the preparations in Japan and the association is also preparing to send Manita Shrestha Pradhan for the Olympics once the Asian Games is concluded. 

President of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) Jeevan Ram Shrestha expressed hope that players will not only play to be selected in Olympics, but to win some medals. 

Shrestha added that the committee is ready to make Nepal result oriented, and not only for the sake of the participation with the help of concerned authorities and the government. 

Khatri, who is the gold medal winner of the 12th South Asian Games in February 2016 and has participated in the Riyo Olympics, said she is delighted after getting the chance to go to Japan for the preparations of the Olympics.
