KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is planning to provide cyber security training to 4000 people. The metropolis aims to train 15,000 people and provide employment to 5,000 under its pride project `Employment Kathmandu’s Prosperity, Employment and Income Generation’.

According to the metropolis, it is preparing to cooperate with the EC-Council and GAP Technologies to help the city achieve its goals. The KMC plans to formally launch the training program  on January 16.

Engineer Shailendra Jha, a member of the Urban Planning Commission, said, “Students and professionals who are willing to work for cyber security will be provided with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves from cyber risks.”

Jha said that various reports revealed that cyber crime increased by 59 percent in Nepal last year and training for strong and efficient cyber security will contribute to control such crimes.

“Others may be misusing a person's personal information without the person knowing it. Sometimes it is heard that there are problems in the government's system as well. We have to act now to protect citizens from internet-based risks. Hence, we have started this training,” he said.

He said that in the cyber security training, the authorities of smartphones, messages and information received in emails, devices connected to the Internet and the applications used in them will be taught.
