BIRATNAGAR, April 8: The CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to withdraw its support to the Koshi government.

And with that, preparations for the formation of the sixth government in Koshi Province have started. With the change in the coalition at the center, preparations for the formation of a new government led by the CPN-UML in Koshi Province have commenced.

An emergency meeting of the Maoist Center Provincial Parliamentary Party held at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Monday decided to leave the Kedar Karki-led government and withdraw the support earlier extended to the government.

The meeting has decided that the ministers appointed from the Maoist Center will resign today. Rajendra Karki, Narayan Burja Magar and Ganesh Upreti who are ministers from the Maoist Center in the provincial Cabinet will resign from their posts on Monday.

Maoist Center member of Koshi Provincial Assembly Durga Prasad Chapagain said that today's emergency meeting of the Maoist Parliamentary Party withdrew the support extended to the government and recalled all its representatives from the government. “It has also been decided to request the province chief to call a special session of the provincial assembly and start the process of forming a new government,” he said.

On Sunday evening, there was a discussion on the formation of a new government between the leaders of the major parties in the alliance, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center).

Rewati Raman Bhandari, chief whip of the UML Koshi Province Assembly, stated that the discussion regarding the change of Koshi government is positive.

Bhandari also claimed that discussions are underway between the parties and some conclusions will be reached today. He added, “There is an intensive discussion between the parties regarding the change in government. Conclusions may be drawn by this evening.”

According to the consensus between the new alliance, the leadership of the Koshi Provincial government will be given to the CPN-UML. Accordingly, the UML has been pressuring the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialists to leave the Koshi Provincial government.

UML has been insisting that according to Article 168 (5) of the constitution, another member of the provincial assembly who has majority according to the same article can claim the alternative of the government formed under the leadership of the provincial assembly member who has a majority in the provincial assembly.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Kedar Karki has been claiming that since the government under Article 168 (5) is the last option, for which the government is in a minority, according to Article 168 (7) of the Constitution, the provincial assembly will be dissolved and mid-term elections will be held.
