KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has claimed that the unity of the ruling seven-party alliance will not last long.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in Sanepa on Wednesday, Mahat said that the Nepali Congress did not break the alliance with the CPN (Maoist Center).

He added that the two parties had to forge an electoral alliance to contest the local election as well as the election to the members of the House of Representatives and the provincial assemblies because of circumstances.

As the alliance was forged due to the vested interests of both the parties, it was clear from the beginning that the alliance would not last long.

Nepali Congress Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat also said that there are many reasons to doubt the continuation of the alliance between the ruling parties and therefore the days of the government led by CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal are numbered.

Mahat said that the Nepali Congress, being the largest party in parliament, had to sit in the opposition bench, and said that his party will play the role of a strong opposition in accordance with the parliamentary standards.

He also said that after the first meeting of the parliament on January 9, the NC will hold its central committee meeting on January 12 for a comprehensive review of the party activities.
