KATHMANDU, Feb 25: Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) General Secretary Keshav Jha has sent a letter to Mahanth Thakur, chairman of the Party, asking him to resign from the post.

Jha reached Thakur's residence Hattiban on Sunday morning to deliver the letter to Thakur. He reached Thakur's house and handed him the letter.

In the letter, Thakur has been asked to resign from the post of chairman and remain as the guardian of the party. Jha said that the party will not move forward if Thakur remains in the post of president.

“History does not always give opportunities. It is wise to take the opportunity early. Our politics could not rise above launching protests and agitation and turning them into opportunism," he has said in the letter. The LSP controversy has reached its peak recently. The party is in a state of disintegration.

Legally, LSP cannot be split, but the second ranking leader of the party, Rajendra Mahato, Jha, Santosh Mehta and other leaders are preparing to launch a new party. According to the legal provisions, once a party is formed, it cannot be dissolved for five years.

However, a new party can be formed after leaving LSP. Mahato, Jha and other leaders are involved in that campaign. Since February, they have been campaigning in various districts including Kathmandu. The leaders who are campaigning to start a new party have stopped going to the LSP party office in Babarmahal.
