Maoist Center wins five local govt elections including a municipality in Rolpa

ROLPA, May 17: The CPN (Maoist Center) has won the elections for five local governments, including a municipality, while the Nepali Congress (NC) has won elections in two local bodies of Rolpa district.

The CPN (Maoist Center) has become victorious in Rolpa Municipality, and Thawang, Paribartan, Sunil Smriti, and Madi and Lungri rural municipalities while NC has won in Ganga Dev and Runtigadhi rural municipalities. 

Surendra Thapa Gharti of the Maoist Center has been elected mayor of Rolpa Municipality by receiving 7,603 votes. His closest rival Sher Bahadur Thapa of NC secured 3,658 votes.

Similarly, Geeta Acharya of the same party won the election to the post of deputy-mayor. She got 7,741 votes while her closest rival Pushpa Shrestha of the NC gathered 3,719 votes.   

Out of the 10 wards of Rolpa municipality, the Maoist Center has won the elections in nine wards and NC in one ward.
