Writ filed at Supreme Court against CJ appointment delay

A writ has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding immediate appointment of chief justice today. According to the constitution, the post must be filled within a month after retirement of a chief justice. However, two months after resignation of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli, the constitutional council is yet to appoint one. The writ petition has also demanded mandamus against federal parliamentarian secretariat, prime minister, speaker and deputy speaker of House of Representatives, chairperson of national assembly and opposition parties.

Safe but at high risks of bird flu transmission, health experts

Preliminary investigation found that bird flu had not been transmitted to humans yet in Sutarni of Khairbani municipality-9 of east Chitwan. However, a technical team has maintained that residents in the area are at high risks of possible infection.

Gorkha Hospital sans specialists since six years

A radiologist and a surgeon are two of the many specialists that Gorkha Hospital, the biggest hospital of the district urgently needs to expand its health services. While the Ministry of Health had deployed doctors and specialists six years ago, the latter are yet to arrive, largely due to “geographical remoteness and small coverage area,” according to doctors at the hospital.

Minister inaugurates shortest route to Rasuwagadi

Defense minister Ishwor Pokhrel inaugurated 17 kilometer Mailung-Syafrubesi road, the shortest route connecting Rasuwagadi. With the road in place, commuters travelling from Kathmandu will travel 122 kilometers to reach Syafrubesi against 145 kilometers via Betrawati-Dhunche-Rasuwagadi road.  

UML confirms 42 as CC members in Nepal Communist Party

Former CPN UML party has finalized 42 additional names from its side for the central committee of newly formed Communist Party of Nepal. The list was finalized by former chair of UML KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal. The central committee of the CPN has 441 members, of which 241 will be from the then UML.

US-China not to launch a trade war

The United States and China issued a joint statement to reach consensus on measures to “substantially” reduce the U.S. trade deficit with Beijing by “significantly” increasing its purchases of U.S. goods, but offered few details. Last year, the United States had a $375.2 billion trade deficit with China and the United States reportedly had demanded that the deficit be narrowed by at least $200 billion by 2020.
