National Development Council meeting underway

KATHMANDU, April 25: A meeting of the National Development Council is underway today to discuss the short-term, long-term and periodic development plans formulated by the National Planning Commission (NPC). The primary agenda of the meeting is to finalize the government's 16th plan.

The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal convened at 8AM and is scheduled to continue until 7PM at Hotel Yak and Yeti. PM Dahal, who serves as chairman of the NPC, is delivering the opening address, alongside former prime ministers and top leaders of political parties.

During the initial session, Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha, the vice-chairman of the NPC, is presenting the draft of the 16th plan. Subsequently, participants will engage in discussions, sharing their perspectives and insights on the draft.

Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, JSP Chairman and Health Minister Upendra Yadav, Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) Chairman and former Minister Ranjita Shrestha are slated to address the meeting.

Subject-specific sessions will focus on the draft of the 16th plan, with experts from diverse fields and representatives from the private sector participating in discussions. Through group deliberations, they will provide essential suggestions for finalizing the 16th plan. In the concluding session, chief ministers from all seven provinces will deliver their remarks.

The National Development Council meeting holds significant importance in formulating the government's 5-year development strategy. Based on the inputs gathered during this meeting, the NPC will prepare a comprehensive 5-year plan for Nepal.
