KATHMANDU, July 4: The CPN (Maoist Center), a coalition partner of the Nepali Congress (NC)-led government, has accused the NC of not being honest and serious towards electoral alliance.

A brief political report presented by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the third plenary meeting of UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee in Kathmandu on Sunday blamed the NC for forming alliances with other parties to defeat UCPN (Maoist) in the local level elections.

“The entire party rank and file of NC was not found to be honest and serious about the alliance. As a result, there are many instances of our defeat in districts including Rolpa, Rukum, Salyan, Kalikot, Bhojpur, Gorkha and Sindhupalchowk and in other  places where our party has a strong presence. The NC seems to have forged  alliances with other parties including the UML to defeat or weaken us,” the report said.

The Maoist Center has accused the NC of not allowing other parties to form alliances in local elections where it was strong and of coordinating with the UML or other parties where the UCPN (Maoist) and other parties were strong. The Maoists have accused the NC of pursuing an undeclared policy of forming a five-party alliance in areas where it is weak and fielding rebel candidates against the alliance in some places. The Maoist Center claimed that many votes were wasted as the NC voters did not vote for the coalition candidates or voted only for the NC candidates.
