Nepal 'A' clinches thrilling victory over Ireland Wolves, avoids clean sweep

KATHMANDU, April 1: Nepal 'A' clinched a thrilling victory against Ireland Wolves by 3 runs in the last match of the ongoing T-20 practice at TU International Cricket Ground on Monday. After suffering back-to-back defeats in the previous two matches, Nepal managed to secure a win in the third and final match, denying a clean sweep to the visitors.

Nepal 'A' set a formidable target of 214 runs for victory against Ireland Wolves. 

In response, Ireland Wolves scored only 210 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Nepalis bowler Bipin Khatri dismissed three players of Ireland Wolves while Rashid Khan, Narayan Joshi and Kamal Singh Airee each taking one wicket.

Earlier, Ireland Wolves won the toss and decided to field first in the match held at TU International Cricket Ground. Nepal scored 213 runs in 20 overs losing seven wickets.

Nepal’s batsman Aarif Sheikh emerged as the top scorer with 93 runs off 48 balls including 6 sixes and 7 fours. Similarly, Khan contributed 24 runs off 13 balls while Basir Ahmed scored 19 runs in 21 balls. Similarly, Airee remained unbeaten with 19 runs off 7 balls.

Lokesh Bam was dismissed for 8 runs off 7 balls while Dev Khanal was dismissed for 6 runs in 7 balls. Similarly, captain Binod Bhandari managed to score only 11 runs off 8 balls. Pawan Sharraf scored 13 runs off 12 balls, while Joshi who faced one ball was limited to just 1 run.

Nepal A lost the first match by 21 runs and the second by 40 runs, conceding the series. In both the previous matches, Nepal's middle and lower-order batting line-up struggled. Nepal 'A' is scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Ireland 'A' from Wednesday.
