Nepal bags 20 gold medals becoming champion in Asia Cup Karate

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Nepal has finished as champions in the Asia Cup Fourth International Karate Championship concluded in Mumbai of India on Sunday, clinching 20 gold medals. 

A squad from the Sports Science Academy of Nepal represented the country in the tournament and won 20 gold towards Kata and Kumite, and two silvers said Academy Director Nabin Upreti. 

Junior players were given chances to test their ability in the international tournament. Sonim Manandhar alone clinched three gold including in 45 kg Kumite and junior Kata. 
Likewise, Sanju Deshar won two gold in 35 kg Kumite and U-13 Kata; Muna Shakya in 40 kg Kumite and U-14 Kata. 

Asmita Rai won two gold in 55 kg Kumite and U-15; Rashmi Pandey in 45 kg Kumite and U-16 Kat; Bimala Nepali in 45 kg Kumite (senior) and senior Kata; and Hrishavraj Giri clinched in U-16, 55 kg Kumite and Kata). 

Likewise, other gold winning players are Surya Bikram Bhandari in U- 15 Kumite; Raj Kumar Pariyar in 67 kg senior Kumite); Ankit Gurung in 50 kg senior; Subina Khatri in 55 kg senior; and Anish Lama in 60 kg senior. 

It said that players winning the gold in the President Running Shield in three previous years had been given an opportunity to take part in the event and the participation aimed to further increase their capacity. RSS
