Nepal downs Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15: Nepal has set semifinal clash against the host Malaysia in the ongoing ACC U-19 Eastern Region Cricket Tournament. 

Nepal defeated Singapore by seven wickets in its last match of Group A on Thursday to secure the top-place in the group with six points. Malaysia is the runner-up of Group B.

After facing a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Hong Kong, the home team Malaysia was limited to the position of group runner-up on the same day. 

Group B topper Hong Kong will take on group A runner-up Singapore in the second semifinal match of the competition at Bayuemas Oval. 

Likewise, Nepal and Malaysia will compete at Kinnara Oval Cricket Ground.  Both semifinal matches will be played on Sunday.

In the match played at Club Aman Cricket Ground, Kuala Lumpur, Nepal restricted Singapore for a low total of 67/10. In reply, Nepal achieved the target at the loss of three wickets in 13.4 overs. 

Nepal’s Pawan Sarraf claimed 6-12 from eight overs to limit Singapore at the low score, while Kishore Mahato added two more wickets to Nepal’s account. Likewise, skipper Dipendra Singh Airee and Sandeep Lamichhane claimed one wicket each. 

Only three batsmen including Aryaman Sunil Uchil (20), Siddhant (20) and Rohan Rangarajan (11) managed to score double-digit figures for Singapore. 

Nepal’s opening duo Sandeep Sunar and Mohamed Asif Sheikh gave an average start to the innings by creating a 19-run partnership for the first wicket. Sunar stroke 20 runs off 35 balls while Sheikh contributed six runs in eight deliveries. 

Likewise, Anil Kumar Sah and Sumit Maharjan struck 18 and 10 runs respectively. 
Singapore’s Avi Dixit dismissed two Nepali batsmen while Ansh Bhargava grabbed one wicket.
