Nepal Embassy in Pakistan commemorates 70th anniversary of the first ascent to Mt Everest

KATHMANDU, June 13: The Embassy of Nepal in Pakistan hosted a special event to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the first ascent to Mount Everest and International Mt. Everest Day-2023. The event was attended by Everest Summiteers, alpinists, media personnel, and friends of Nepal in Islamabad.

During his address, Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, Tapas Adhikari, emphasized the significance of the day, which marked a groundbreaking achievement in the field of mountaineering. He acknowledged the thousands of mountaineers who have scaled Everest since May 29, 1953, and highlighted the government's policies, programs, and strategies aimed at promoting mountaineering and adventure tourism in Nepal.

At the beginning of the event, Ambassador Adhikari extended a warm welcome to the Everest summiteers and congratulated Naila Kiyani and Sajid Ali Sadpara on their recent successful ascent of Mt. Everest. He expressed hope that they would continue their pursuit of mountaineering and expeditions.

The ambassador also emphasized the invaluable contribution of the Sherpas to the field of mountaineering, highlighting their expertise, reliability, and helpfulness. He acknowledged that without their support, climbing any mountain in the world would be a challenging task. "Sherpas are the soft power of Nepal, and Nepal takes great pride in their contributions to our country, particularly in the field of mountaineering," he stated.

As part of the program, Ambassador Adhikari presented certificates issued by the Department of Tourism to Naila Kiyani and Sajid Ali Sadpara in recognition of their recent ascent of Mt. Everest. Mingma G. Shepa, Dawa Sherpa, Sarbaz Khan, Kiyani, and Sadpara also shared their experiences and expressed their gratitude to the government and people of Nepal for their support in their mountaineering endeavors.
