Nepal-India DIG-level security coordination meeting held to address border issues

BARA, Oct 10: A DIG-level security coordination meeting, responsible for border crime control, successfully concluded between the Armed Police Force from the Nepali side and the Indian Seema Surkchha Bal (SSB) from the Indian side.

The meeting, which took place on Monday at Bardibas, Chinnamasta Bahini headquarters of the Armed Police Force of Nepal, aimed to collaboratively address concerns such as violent communal elements and border encroachments prevalent in the Terai districts through mutual cooperation.

DIG Dipendra Shah of the Armed Police Force, Chinnamasta Brigade commander, led the discussions on behalf of Nepal, while DIG IPS Deepak Kumar represented the Indian Armed force on behalf of India.

During the security meeting, the two sides coordinated efforts with relevant agencies to facilitate the movement of Nepali vehicles in India, jointly conducted special security operations to combat the rising drug trafficking across the border, addressed human trafficking concerns, and tackled illegal economic crimes in the border region. Shah highlighted the agreement reached to move forward through collaboration.

The meeting also deliberated the establishment of help desks to facilitate safe and easy movement in the border areas, especially during festivals.

The security meeting was attended by DIG Suresh Subramaniam of the Indian SSB’S Betiya sector headquarters and the heads of offices from both organizations working in the border areas between Nepal and India. Senior Superintendent of Armed Police Madhav Prasad Paudel, the spokesman for the force, confirmed the event's successful organization.
