Nepal, Mongolia hold first ever bilateral consultation meeting

KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Nepal and Mongolia held their first ever bilateral consultation mechanism meeting in Kathmandu on Monday.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) the two sides dwelt on various aspects of bilateral relations as well as cooperation in regional and multilateral forums on issues of common interest, according to a press release issued by the MoFA.

Both sides underscored the need for enhancing cooperation in the areas of trade, tourism, culture and people-to-people contacts for further strengthening the bilateral relations, the ministry said in the press release.

"The two sides also discussed on working together in various global forums to promote the interests of Landlocked Developing Countries," the release added.

Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, joint Secretary and head of the North East Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and D. Davaasuren, state secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia led their respective delegations in the meeting.

Also today, Joint Secretary Dhakal hosted a luncheon in honor of the Mongolian delegation.

Officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation joined the meeting as part of the Nepali delegation. The Mongolian delegation consisted of Non-resident Ambassador of Mongolia to Nepal and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.

The bilateral consultation mechanism between the two countries was established on June 12  this year.
