Nepal registers thumping win over Malaysia

Kathmandu, Feb 28: Nepal defeated Malaysia by 10 wickets in the ICC U-19 Men's World Cup Asia Qualifiers match in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday. The match was held in Maleka Cricket Stadium in UAE.     

With this victory, Nepal has registered fourth consecutive win in this tournament. Earlier in the qualifiers, Nepal had defeated Singapore, Kuwait and Hong Kong.    

During Tuesday’s match against Malaysia, Nepal achieved a meager 73-run target in nine overs without losing any of its wickets. Both the openers of Nepal remained not out in the match. Opener Deepak Bohara hit 38 runs while another opener Arjun Kumal contributed 21 runs.     

Earlier, Malaysia won the toss and elected to bat first and made a total 72 runs in 35.3 overs, losing all wickets. Akram Malek hit the highest 26 runs for Malaysia while Mohammad Harrison and Mohammad Syahir Syamil made 12 runs each.     

Deepesh Kadel took four wickets for Nepal while Akash Chand bagged three wickets. Similarly, Milan Bohara took two wickets and Subash Bhandari one.     

Nepal will play the last match of the qualifiers against the UAE on March 2. Along with Nepal, Singapore, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the hosts UAE are taking part in the tournament. The winner team of this tournament being held in the round-robin format will qualify for the U-19 World Cup Championship to be held in Sri Lanka in 2024.
