KATHMANDU, July 31: The Nepali short film 'Dristi,' directed by Abhimat Subedi, has garnered significant acclaim by being chosen for the prestigious Lift-Off First Time Filmmaker Sessions 2023.

The film portrays the life of a young girl whose journey takes an unexpected turn after encountering a peculiar incident. With its official release still pending, 'Dristi' is set to be featured at the United Kingdom-based film festival scheduled for September 15.

The movie's cast includes Aditi Khanal, Keshav Parajuli, Roshan Aryal, Ashirwad Gautam, Gaurav Dudhraj, Manjil Risal, Parivesh Verma, and Sabin Gartaula. Adhyatma Subedi serves as the producer, while the director himself takes on the role of the writer and editor.

Director Abhimat Subedi expressed his overwhelming emotions upon learning about the selection of his debut directorial work for an international film festival. "The feeling was surreal, considering it was my first directorial endeavor. Also, I had to sit and learn editing on my own. It was a lot of pressure at post production. However, the selection reassured me that all the hard work was worth it," he shared.

While the movie is yet to be released on YouTube, the filmmakers have decided to hold its online premiere after a certain period. This decision comes as they are actively pursuing further opportunities to present 'Dristi' at other film festivals, including the esteemed Nepali International Film Festival.

Furthermore, 'Ananta,' a short film in which Subedi contributed as a writer and actor, was also selected for the Student World Impact Film Festival in New Jersey, USA.
