NEPSE plunges 24.58 points, daily turnover falls to Rs 3.79 billion

KATHMANDU, May 5: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday nosedived 24.58 points to close at 1,974.37 points.

The secondary market opened at 1,998.96 points and went into a downward graph right from the start of stocks trading for the day. The index plunged to the day’s low at 1,970.41 points before the last three minutes of trading. The market recovered around four points in the remaining time before it was closed for the day. 

The sensitive index that measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies also declined by a notable 4.86 points. The daily turnover declined to Rs 3.79 billion from Rs 4.13 billion on Thursday.  

Two groups including microfinance and non-life insurance gained 6.84 points and 4.29 points, respectively. Of the 11 losers, life insurance shed the largest of 173.87 points, while manufacturing and processing, and development banks also lost three-digit points.  

Among individual companies, 42 were recorded as gainers whereas 196 were the losers.

Nepal Finance Ltd had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 126.49 million. People’s Power Limited, with a decline of 9.92 percent of its market value, was the biggest loser. Dolti Power Company Limited gained the highest of 9.56 percent of its market price.
