Nepse plunges 31.97 points to close below 1,900 points on Sunday

KATHMANDU, Dec 11: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Sunday plunged 31.97 points as the political parties try to form a new government.

The secondary market opened at 1,917.28 points. It went to a straight fall throughout the trading period and closed at 1,885.31 points. According to the stockbrokers, the investors are failing to regain confidence in the country’s share market due to the high interest rates and upcoming second quarter end.

The daily turnover amount stood at Rs 1.103 billion, a fall from Rs 1.65 billion on Wednesday, the last trading day of the last week. In the intraday trading, a total of 180 companies lost in their market value while 25 companies gained on their share prices.

The sensitive index that measures the performance of blue chips companies also fell 6.28 points. All the 13 sub-groups had their market index declined, while non-life insurance lost the largest of 98.40 points.  

In individual companies, Shivam Cement posted the largest transaction of its shares worth Rs 109.36 million. Nadep Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was the top loser while CYC Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited gained the highest percent of its market value.
